Christine Bailey

Dear Maureen,

Many thanks for your question. I regularly see children in my clinic so hopefully I can provide some support for you.

As you will be aware there are some limitations of the IgG food intolerance testing and be aware that this is not recognised by GPs as an accurate test. While it is often the case that multiple reactions can imply intestinal permeability you may wish to also look at the Cyrex array 2 test and array 3 for gluten and wheat as these are more rigorous tests and supported by research papers. It may also be that there are other factors affecting gut health – do you suspect whether there is a gut infection for example and would a stool test be relevant in view of her health history.

The normal recommendation for food sensitivities is to remove the key reactive foods for a minimum of 3 months while an active gut healing programme is put into place. It is possible to devise diets even if there are quite a few foods to avoid and I have done this for many children with multiple food reactions. Gut healing though is important – bone broth of course as well as anti-inflammatory foods, fish oil, fermented foods – yogurts, kefir etc, healthy fats in the diet, turmeric etc. I would also consider whether your client needs a digestive enzyme – is she breaking foods down efficiently? Looking at eating patterns too would be important – taking time to eat, not eating on the go, chewing foods well etc.

In terms of supplements there are several you may wish to look at which can be added to shakes or stirred into drinks if she is unable to swallow capsules. I would also consider testing her vitamin D level and making sure this is optimal. You may also wish to look at a home blood fingerspot fatty acid test too.

The following supplements are suggested for you to consider in light of your relevant expertise and intimate understanding of the needs of your client or patient. It is not intended for them all to be taken, but rather just those that you select. They may be used in isolation or as part of a multi supplement strategy, but at all times the consideration of their use should be tied into the specific needs of the individual you are responsible for.

Please consider these suggestions in light of the other clinical information pertaining to this individual.  If you have any more information about the specific problems this individual is experiencing, further refinement of these suggestions may be considered.  I hope this information is helpful, and if you have any further questions or information specific to the problems this individual is experiencing, please do provide feedback
